Mustard Seed Family Centre
Development
Development of a Victoria Family Centre; a unique vision of an integrated sustainable centre for meeting social needs, building independent lives and strengthening families. It is a solution oriented idea for improving people’s lives and building greater hope in our community.
The Mustard Seed has been in existence in the city of Victoria for over 35 years and has been committed to the needs of the poor for most of its history. During that period of time, it has seen the number of needy people grow from a few hundred to well over 7000, fifteen hundred of those being children under the age of 16 years. The Mustard Seed has provided food hampers once a month, free clothing, emotional and spiritual counseling, minor medical care, general advocacy and the presence of a compassionate community. Through the entire process, we have always been conscious of the innocent victims of poverty. They are the children of the Mustard Seed and now we are looking at a strategy that will begin to deal with the cause of poverty.
In our brief history we have actually seen three generations go through poverty … it must stop!
We are proposing the formation of a Family Centre where parents, adults and children will be taught to develop a lifestyle of healthy living, productivity, care for each other, compassion and community.
