The Mustard Seed Food Bank
The Mustard Seed Food Bank finds its home within the walls of the Mustard Seed Street Church. Established in 1983 in answer to the increasing needs in Victoria, it has expanded to become the largest food bank on Vancouver Island. We periodically assist 18 plus agencies from food received through the National Food Sharing System by Food Banks Canada.
The Mustard Seed Food Bank exists to serve people of all ages. Each month over 7,000 people benefit from our service. Many people, for a variety of reasons, find their monthly budget stretched to the breaking point. After the rent is paid, the heat and electricity bills are covered and transportation costs are scraped together there is not enough money left to buy the groceries needed to eat. The income they has not been able to keep pace with the rising costs of living.
This is where Mustard Seed Food Bank is able to help.
Each week we receive donations of food and finances from the caring citizens and concerned companies of Victoria as well as from generous Canadian food manufacturers. These consistent donations enable us to have food on our shelves and in our refrigerators. Each week our staff and volunteers are busy working at collecting, receiving, inspecting, sorting and packaging the food items into hampers for your neighbours that need assistance.
Our goal is to provide, from what we are given, a grocery hamper of nutritional food. Our hampers most often include tinned and packaged goods, seasonal fruits and vegetables, meat and dairy products. We have the privilege of passing on to you the best hamper we can. Our reward is in knowing that we help many families and seniors to put food on the table. A child cannot learn on an empty stomach.

Hampers are available for distribution on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9am to 2pm.
We are closed for statutory holidays and the week following Social Assistance Checks.
